Rusty

Rusty's subject matter is unashamedly female. She works gesturally, with a bold palette using the push and pull of colour and expressionist texture to bring her subjects alive. While many of her paintings are taken from life or inspired by real people, she doesn't aim for likeness in the traditional sense, but for mood, gesture and ‘feel’.

Rusty is a fine artist born in London (1995) and currently living and working in South East London, England. She initially studied at the University of Westminster in Fashion then at Chelsea College of Art practicing Textile Design from which she graduated in 2018.

Rusty’s textile background informs her textured, expressive painting style which explores the female gaze through gestural, decorative nudes and portraits.

Rusty feels it is important for women of her generation to take ownership of how women are perceived and presented in a patriarchal society. This is not to say her work is joyless. Her female muses and nudes jump out with colourful vigour, life and humour.
