Paul Staden is a furniture maker, hand-making authentic and uncomplicated furniture and homewares. Combining traditional craft techniques with design restraint, transforming utility in to pieces of beauty. He has an evolving curated collection or he can apply his unique design handwriting to create bespoke pieces. Always one person working on one piece, with his customers just one-degree of separation from the maker.
Inspired by the design vernacular and bucolic beauty of the Sussex countryside, my pieces bring a sense of calm and function to your home.
I want to offer an antidote to the hectic world – a simpler, slower, more thoughtful way of living. After years of hand-making furniture for my home and friends, I realised the Pilgrim House brand had been subconsciously in-the-making since I studied furniture design over twenty five years ago.
Seemingly on an unknown journey in the background, Pilgrim House was established in 2021, founded on an ambition to make honest cabinets and homewares.
On day one, a sign was hung on my workshop wall reading, ‘an object must be wholesomely and honestly made’. This informs my craft and design ethos, firmly grounded in creating pieces with longevity, simplicity and functionality, carefully selecting materials and methods that are in keeping with the work to be done. Designed and made to wear in and not out.
My curated collections are all designed by me and hand-made to order in our small workshop in the heart of West Sussex.
