Hannah Baxendale

Hannah Baxendale creates work which reinterprets everyday objects through bold forms, vibrant colour, and tactile surfaces. Taking inspiration from traditional craftsmanship, she explores the emotional potential of objects, creating work that invites joy and meaningful interaction to somebodies everyday rituals.

Hannah Baxendale exists as a designer and maker, with a deep curiosity about a multitude of materials especially glass.

Her style continuously experiments with pleasant texture and form which aims to promote feelings of ‘good unexpectedness’ within the viewer. Hannah’s charming objects desire to challenge mundane design principles and transform regular objects into functional sculptures. Sculptures which possess both useable and emotional qualities.

By taking inspiration from the glee she felt from creating as a child. Her designing process takes on a playful, non-serious structure, something which translates into the work itself. After completing a degree in Product Design and Craft at Manchester School of Art, She now exhibits her work around Manchester and London with Highlights from 2024 being London Design Festival and Great Northern Contemporary Craft Fair.

Baxendale continues to specalise in glassblowing, on top of this her other studio work consists of casting, various wood work and other traditional crafts such as mosaicking and stained glass.

This is not the kind of delicate, polished glasswork that sits behind museum glass. Her pieces are playful, honest, textured. A chunky vase in bold, childlike colour. A toothbrush holder with a pocked surface that begs to be touched. Objects that don’t pretend to be perfect—and are more loveable for it. - Atola Papers 2025
