Eddie Knevett's work is bold, sculptural and colourful. Strong forms are the back drop to layers of pattern and stripes in coloured slips and glazes. Everything is made by hand in the South East of England.
Using torn paper to create jagged-edged shapes with accidental proportions, Knevett applies colour and texture to substantial ceramic vessels, formed from black and white earthenware or terracotta.
The interaction between the shapes on the surface visually distort the proportions and overall shape of the pots. He draws inspiration from dazzle ship camouflage, Jerry Anderson’s imagery of Tracy Island interiors, and the tracking light of the Mysterons that both scared and excited him as a child. His work also references the bold mark making and patterns found in art from early humans.
Now based in St Leonards-on-Sea, Eddie Knevett revisited ceramics 15 years ago after a career in Luxury Fashion buying. Moving to St Leonards allowed Knevett to focus on the thing he loves most in the world: making pots.
