Chelsea’s practice has developed from a background in Fine Art and an appreciation for handmade objects. Combining the traditional woodworking technique of marquetry with contemporary forms, her pieces incorporate both her love of drawing and craft.
Chelsea’s pieces are a contemporary take on the traditional woodworking technique of marquetry. With a background in Fine Art, Chelsea went on to study furniture design and making.
She uses veneer surplus from large-scale manufacturers to create a unique and sustainable outcome. She works from her hand drawn studies and sketches, transforming them into tactile forms with incredible precision.
“Marquetry was a perfect discovery for me, as it combines my love of drawing with my woodworking skills. My pieces aim to enhance the beautiful textures of wood grain. I want the viewer to get up close and explore the details of the natural patterns. I aim for the colours and shapes to bring a sense of balance to a room, creating pieces that are both calming and stimulating at the same time.”
