AWL Studio designs and handmakes intricate, sustainable textiles with an artisanal understanding and a focus on craft. Founder Sophie sources yarns from luxury fashion industry deadstock and pairs with sustainable cotton, cashmere and lambswool to create beautiful, environmentally responsible pieces. Sophie hopes that her pieces bring joy and comfort to life at home and are passed down between generations, over time, creating a legacy of their own.
Sophie Gilman, a Central Saint Martin’s alumna, founded AWL Studio in 2020 with a passion for artisanal craftsmanship and sustainability. Sophie draws inspiration from three primary sources: art, architecture, and fashion and marries that inspiration with a deep understanding of traditional techniques learnt over her career in fashion and interiors.
Each item in the AWL collection is handmade with a commitment to environmental responsibility, using luxury deadstock or sustainable yarns.
Rooted in the belief that handmade goods carry meaning beyond their functionality, Sophie’s work aims to create a legacy of thoughtful living. She hopes each piece from AWL Studio will be cherished, passed down, and woven into the fabric of a lived-in home — elevating the everyday fabrics that we live our lives in is the founding principle of AWL.
