Sophie Harpley

Sophie Harpley is a British artist who paints patterns by hand to create original wallpapers and textiles. Inspired by European art history and botanical beauty, her fresh freehand style brings a relaxed and storied aesthetic to the home. Sophie’s natural fabrics and papers are sustainably printed in England.

Sophie studied in Sussex and Bristol, where she completed a Graphic Arts Masters in 2012, specialising in print. Her career began at London’s Victoria & Albert Museum, confirming her deep love of art and decorative design. Drawing together an instinct for paint and pattern, Sophie’s homeware collections have evolved ever since, alongside illustration commissions, design for interiors brands and stockists such as The Royal Academy of Arts.

During the pandemic Sophie’s painted stationery delivered joy by post and led to features in Vogue, The Financial Times and a popular collaboration ‘Cards from the Kitchen’ with food writer Rosie Birkett. Her next collection ‘The Language of Flowers’ led to a textiles commission with Nina London. Sophie relaunched her eponymous brand in 2022 with a new focus on her growing collection of printed linens and wallpapers.

In 2023 Sophie won a Homes & Gardens Design Award for her new collection of wallpapers. Her work has also featured in House & Garden, The Telegraph, Elle Decoration, Country Living and many more. Sophie’s work was described by British Vogue as ‘always uplifting’ and she truly believes in the joy, creativity and character that hand-painted patterns bring to our lives and homes.
