Poppy Bertola

Based in West Yorkshire, the studio meticulously crafts artful picture frames and homeware. Natural materials such as wood and linen are thoughtfully used to construct characterful and timeless creations . With a passion for colour at the heart, each piece is either stained, coated in a glossy lacquer or adorned with fabric.

The studio emerged unexpectedly out of a period of creative frustration during maternity leave in the midst of a pandemic. The time and mental space allowed Poppy to reconnect with her background in Contemporary Art, which she had studied at university.

She handcrafted her first picture frame, and the process filled her with a sense of purpose, giving her the confidence to sell her creations. The demand grew so much that she decided to leave her teaching job to pursue the passion full-time.

Poppy’s love of colour is evident through the studio’s ever-expanding colour range. She is inspired by nature’s palette and how colours compliment each other through both traditional and often unassuming combinations.

This passion has driven Poppy to explore the emotional impact of colour and how it can be expressed through various materials and finishes. It has also guided the evolution and refinement of the studio’s products over time.

The studio’s commitment to sustainability is at the core of its production methods. Handcrafted to order, each piece is meticulously constructed involving multiple steps, such as joining wooden frames, applying individual beads, cutting glass and layering 6-8 coats of lacquer, among many other intricate processes. Often described as a labour of love, the studio’s dedication is reflected in the care and craftsmanship that goes into every product.

"Bringing charming character into your four walls, each piece represents individuality and timelessness beyond trends." — Anthropologie
